Scare Tactics

Huffingtonpost.com reads

In a new book, former Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge reveals new details on politicization under President Bush, reports US News & World Report’s Paul Bedard. Among other things, Ridge admits that he was pressured to raise the terror alert to help Bush win re-election in 2004.

If your like me this isn’t new news. My only question is, Why didn’t he tell us this in 2004? But even though he didn’t tell us many of us already knew.  Didn’t you? I hope that you atleast thought about it. If you make the people feel fearful then they will voluntarily give up their freedom. Because of our fear, Homeland Security came into existence.  One week you could walk through the airport from the ticket counter to where you board the plane in about 30 minutes and then the next week with all of the x rays and check ins it took 2hrs.  Don’t get me wrong I want to be safe just like you but I don’t want to be fearful of something that doesn’t exist. The past and present leaders of this country have created a boogeyman for the American people to be so worried about that they can’t focus on the real issues. I’m not saying that terrorists don’t exist. But in the attempt to end terrorism around the world we cannot overlook the terrorism that exists in our beloved country.

If we truly love our country we cannot overlook the hatred that exists in that woman who yelled “Hail Hitler” to the Israeli man who was explaining the pride that he had in his country because of its National Health Care Program. If she realized how posinous her hatred is to her own soul maybe she would release it. But I’m worried not for her but for the babies that she may spread this posion to.

Let me be clear there are things in life that we should be afraid of. We should be afraid of being insincere and unkind. We should be afraid of not living our lives to the fullest. We should be afraid of not treating all people with respect regardless of their religion, socioeconomic status, and race. We should be afraid of not speaking out against the wrong that any country is doing to its people. We should be afraid of having no goals. I’m not worried about Al-Qaeda, I’m worried about not reaching my potential.

Don’t let the scare tacticts take your focus off of the real issues. We must focus on making sure that all people have the opportunity to experience the American Dream, which is equal access to education, healthcare, jobs, and a home. May God bless the new America that will allow this dream to become a reality.
