As I travel to speak all across this country I have the unique opportunity to meet young people and I have come to a simple conclusion; my generation is a bunch of chumps. One may ask, “What makes this generation chumps?” A chump is one who is complacent and afraid to stand up for justice. Don’t get me wrong I’ve met some powerful young people from California to New York, but the majority of us have not found something worth dying for therefore we have yet to live. Thomas Edison said, “We shall have no better conditions in the future if we are satisfied with all those which we have at present.” We have been tricked into believing that if we plant the seed we lose the seed. But we must understand that if we plant the seed we gain the crops. WHEN WE GIVE WE DON’T LOSE, WE ONLY GAIN!
As I watch young people all across the globe pay the ultimate price for freedom it hurts my heart that they are more inspired by the quote of Malcolm X then we are. Malcolm X states that, ” We declare our right on this earth to be a man, to be a human being, to be respected as a human being, to be given the rights of a human being in this society, on this earth, in this day, which we intend to bring into existence by any means necessary.” When are the young people of this country going to stand up and speak truth to power for the sake of future generations? We have been manipulated by the media to believe that our greatness is based on what we have and not who we are. So you and I must spend more time reflecting than on our reflection. As Jails are built at record numbers where are the young people who will stand up like Malcolm and say, “We deserve to be given the rights of a human being in this society?” Where are the young people who will stand up and say “educate us instead of incarcerate us?”Some of us may feel that we “got ours” so everyone should “get theirs.” But this mindset is the reason why we all are in this predicament. Where are the young people who will stand up and say to the music industry, “feed us and stop poisoning us?” Where are the young people who will stand up and say, “Just because I am critical doesn’t mean that I’m a hater?” Where are the young people who will stand up say, “I don’t want generations after me to pass over my generation when searching for inspiration?” Where are the young people who will stand up and say, “I will be the change that I’m looking for?” We’re not afraid to stand up, fight and kill for nonsense! Where are the young people who are courageous enough to be themselves? Where are the young people who will stand up for justice?
There is a difference between a thug and a revolutionary. Thugs talk about killing but aren’t willing to die. Revolutionaries are willing to do both. The young people of Egypt and Libya are showing that they are revolutionaries! What are you willing to die for? When you’ve found the answer to that question then live for it!
